The focus of this study was to determine whether the sixth version of My ReadingCoach Platinum v.2 (MRC) was successful in meeting the needs of struggling readers inDistrict L. Specifically, research questions sought to determine whether the differencesin reading growth were significant among students who participated in MRC and thosewho did not use MRC and whether or not those differences were affected by gender orgrade level. Additionally, research questions focused on the significance of therelationships among students who participated in MRC reading growth and completionrates as well as time spent on task using MRC and whether this was affected by students’gender.The results of the data analysis indicated that the change in reading scoresbetween students who participated in the MRC and those who did not participate wasnot significant, regardless of gender. The results indicated a significant main effect ofthe participants’ grade level on the change in reading scores. Due to the weakrelationships between the change in reading scores among MRC participants andcompletion rate as well as time spent using MRC not being statistically significant,gender analyses could not be completed.The results of this study provided data on the effects of MRC interventionsoftware as used in District L. The findings may have implications for other districtsacross the nation with similar demographics, to determine whether MRC increasesstudent success in reading. This study will add to the body of educational researchrelating to reading interventions. |
